Joining an INSTRUCTOR COURSE is the first step into the world of professional watersport business and a pre-requisit for any real job in a professional working Watersport Center.
During the last 10 years as an examiner, the most common question I faced before students would sign up for an instructor training course is
"Do I really need to have an Instructor Licence?"
To me the answer is a clear "yes". No matter how much experience participants have before they join a course, due to the very intense training and exchange of these experiences with other participants the benefit of these courses is huge.
In addition, an Instructor Licence is an official proof of your own professionality and will be of great help in any job application, salary discussion or in case it comes to insurance matters. Last but not least as an Instructor you have a great responsibility for the safety of your students therefore regular updates and trainings concerning safetystandards, teachingtechnics and equipment development are basic assumptions for your daily work as a Pro Instructor.
VDWS, RYA, IKO, BKSA..?
Once the decision regarding the Instructor Course is made, one will have to decide with which organisation to go with. Nowadays the differences between the leading Watersport Organisations are small and the centers recognise each of the leading certificates. We choosed to work mainly with the VDWS and the RYA. By our experience they have the most personal and individual approach regarding the needs and expectations of their members. The VDWS covers all three sports and offers professional Instructor Training courses in Kiteboarding, Windsurfing and Catamaran and Dinghy Sailing, therefore they make a great partner in accompanying your professional work.
