Kitesurfing Cruise Exumas / Bahamas

The Exumas are a tiny cluster of islands in the Bahamas, far too small for an international airport and accessible only by boat. The islands are surrounded by vast and sometimes very shallow lagoons, making access by yacht challenging. Fearful of running aground on a reef, the typical yachtsman often avoids these islands.

For the adventurous kitesurfer, this means a handful of idyllic islands, surrounded by perfect flat-water lagoons, blessed with steady winds, and far from the crowds of mass tourism.

More than enough reasons for us to include the Exumas in our list of the best kite spots on the planet and to set sail there.

Kitesurfing in the Exumas

The kitesurfing spots in the Exumas are from a different world.

Endless sandbanks with turquoise blue and crystal clear water, with the best shallow water conditions, make the Exumas an absolute dream spot for every water sports enthusiast. The catamaran is anchored directly at the spots, so you can launch directly from the boat.

A light, constant wind blows in the Exumas. On most days you can get out on the water with 12-17 knots. Also ideal for the foilers among you. An absolute paradise.

Exumas Kitesurfing Charter Overview

Day 1: Arrival and Check-in on the Yacht

On the arrival day, we check-in on our yacht at 6:00 PM, settle into the cabins, stow supplies and equipment, and then head to a stylish restaurant near the harbor on land to have a meal together. We'll enjoy some local Rum Punch on board and spend the evening together.

Day 2: Nassau to Little Normans Cay - 35 nautical miles (6 hours)

On the first morning of our trip, we start the day with an early breakfast on board before casting off and setting sail. Our destination: Little Normans Cay, approximately 35 nautical miles (6 hours) away. We'll arrive in the early afternoon, anchor in the protected lagoon, and begin our first kitesurfing and wingfoil sessions of the trip. While you enjoy the water activities, our chef will prepare dinner on board.

Day 3: Little Normans Cay to Normans Cay - 5 nautical miles (1 hour)

After breakfast on board, we'll weigh anchor and sail to the next spot of the trip in just one hour. We'll anchor a few meters away from Escobar's crashed plane, which has sunk in shallow water. It's not only a unique place for snorkeling but also for wingfoiling and kiting. Our guides will take you on a tour to the Secret Spot...

Day 4: Normans Cay - Emerald Rock - 15 nautical miles (3 hours)

After breakfast, we'll do a bit more sailing today. It will take us three hours to reach the lagoon of Emerald Rock. Here, the pioneering spirit is rewarded. Although our anchorage is already incredibly beautiful, a little further upwind, where the lagoon becomes too shallow for sailing, is one of the most beautiful kite and wingfoil spots of this trip. So, those who are willing to tack a bit will be doubly rewarded.

Day 5: Emerald Rock - Sampsons Cay - 15 nautical miles (3 hours)

Located offshore from Sampsons Cay is one of the most beautiful spots of the trip. It's a sandbank with a white beach and almost transparent water. We'll spend the day kitesurfing and wingfoiling, and in the evening, we'll set up a small bar on the beach for a sunset drink.

Day 6: Sampsons Cay - Pig Beach / Stanley Cay - 2 nautical miles (0.5 hours)

We'll start the day with another kitesurfing and wingfoil session at Sampson Cay. For the ambitious kiters and wingfoilers, there's an opportunity to visit the famous Bahamas Pig Beach. We'll anchor there again, and you'll have the chance to swim with the pigs :) Afterwards, we'll sail a short distance to Stanley Cay, where you can enjoy a pricey but incredibly stylish drink at the yacht club's bar while watching the sharks under the dock.

Day 7: Stanley Cay - Leaf Cay - 2 nautical miles (0.5 hours)

We'll anchor in the shallow water within a horseshoe-shaped reef. There you'll find a perfect white sandy beach, turquoise water, and usually no other boats around us. On the water, you'll have perfect flatwater conditions for kitesurfing and wingfoiling, while those who enjoy snorkeling can explore the outer reef.

Day 8: Leaf Cay - Warderick Cay - 16 nautical miles (4 hours)

We're heading back north and making stops at the highlights of the trip. One suggestion from us would be Warderick Cay. It's considered one of the absolute highlights by our team, so we definitely have to stop there :)

Day 9: Warderick Cay - Little Normans Cay Sandbar - 25 nautical miles (5 hours)

On day nine, we have a longer sailing stretch ahead of us, so we'll start the day very early. Breakfast will be served while we sail, and after approximately 6 hours, we'll reach the sandbar of Little Normans Cay. This spot is so picturesque that it could be featured as a cover shot in any kite or wingfoil magazine. We'll arrive in the early afternoon.

Day 10: Little Normans Cay - Nassau Harbour Sandbar - 35 nautical miles (6 hours)

After one last kitesurfing and wingfoil session, we'll pack up our equipment and set off back to Nassau after lunch. It will be a 6-hour journey, and we'll arrive at the Nassau Harbour Sandbar in time for sunset. We'll spend our last night in the harbor. The next morning, at 9:00 AM, it will be time to check out and look forward to our next adventure!

The starting point of our Exumas trip is the island of Nassau. In the southern part of the island, you'll find the Palm Cay Marina where we will board our catamaran. Direct flights from Europe to Nassau are rare. Typically, you would fly to Miami and then transfer to Nassau. Upon arrival at the airport, we recommend taking a taxi to cover the remaining distance to the marina. The taxi ride takes approximately 30 minutes. Our team will be waiting for you at the harbor and will greet you with a welcome cocktail on our ship starting from 6:00 PM on the arrival day.

There is no better way to start a vacation than setting sail aboard a yacht. Just a few minutes after leaving the harbor, a feeling of deep relaxation and tranquility usually sets in. The distances between our anchorages and spots in the Exumas are manageable, and we rarely spend more than 2 hours traveling from one spot to another. This leaves plenty of time for kitesurfing, wingfoiling, and exploring the stunning landscape.

As privacy and space on board a ship are limited, our crew is mindful of giving you the opportunity to leave the boat for a few hours every day. Whether it's for extensive kitesurfing and wingfoiling, enjoying the sun on a beach of your choice, or exploring the island, there will be ample time for you to do so.

In the Exumas, there are no real harbors. Therefore, we spend our nights anchored in protected lagoons, and our chef prepares breakfast, lunch, and dinner on board. The expression "from bed to board" has never been more realistic than on a sailing boat.

For those who have concerns or worries about seasickness, the Exumas are an absolute flat-water paradise. Aside from the fact that a catamaran, compared to a traditional monohull sailboat, tends to rock less, in the Exumas, there is often no noticeable motion of the ship. However, to be absolutely sure, we recommend taking a motion sickness tablet on the first day. But rest assured, after a few hours on board, the issue of seasickness is usually completely forgotten.

The starting point for our Exumas adventure is Nassau, Bahamas.

While direct flights from Europe to Nassau are uncommon, most guests fly via Miami and catch a connecting flight. Once you land in Nassau, a taxi ride to the meeting point will take about 40 minutes. Our team will be ready to greet you on the northeast side of the island, where our catamaran will be anchored in Fort Montague Bay. We’ll pick you up at the beach near Fort Montague, just a stone’s throw from Maxxis Bar. Check-in starts at 6:00 PM with a welcome cocktail to kick off your journey!
