VDWS Kitesurf Instructor Course – What You Need to Know
Before the Course
To join the VDWS Kitesurf Instructor Course, you should be able to ride confidently at Level 6 of the VDWS system. That means you can:
- Do basic jumps
- Perform carving turns
- Ride toe-side and switch smoothly in and out of transitions
Theory Preparation
You don’t need previous teaching experience, but you must complete the online theory before the course.
This includes:
- Studying on the VDWS E-Learning platform
- Completing the required tasks and quizzes
🕐 Time needed: 15–20 hours, depending on your learning pace.
Presentation
You’ll need to prepare a short 15-minute presentation for the course.
- Your topic will be assigned to you before the course starts.
Minimum Age to Join the Course: 16 years
To Get Certified (Instructor License):
To receive your VDWS Kitesurf Instructor License, you need to:

Before the course begins, you’ll study the theoretical foundations through the VDWS eLearning platform.

Exams
💨 Practical Skills (Wind Range: 12–30 knots)
You’ll need to demonstrate that you can ride and handle your kite confidently and safely. The following skills are required:
Safe launching and landing of the kite with assistance
Controlled upwind riding
Carving turn out of the switch position
Carving turn into the switch position
A jump with kite support
Precise and controlled stopping at a buoy
Overall: a safe and confident performance on the water
A demo video showing these test elements is available to help you prepare.
🎓 Teaching Demonstration
You’ll also give a teaching demo, where your ability to instruct beginners is assessed. This includes how you explain techniques, manage a group, and connect your theoretical knowledge to practical situations.
