Requirements for participating in Level 1 Courses
Practical Training for the Course
General Requirements
To successfully participate in the course, the following technical skills must be mastered:
- Wingfoiling in Various Conditions – Confident riding in wind speeds between 10 and 30 knots
- Controlled Water Entry and Exit – Safe launching and landing at different spots
- Efficient Upwind Riding – Controlled and reliable ability to gain height
- Precise Stopping – Stopping at a designated point
Special Maneuvers – Longboard (SUP, Windsurf Board with Daggerboard, or Similar)
- Jibe into and out of Toeside
- Tack into and out of Toeside
Special Maneuvers – Foilboard
- Foiled Jibe into and out of Toeside
- All maneuvers must be performed in a stable foiling state without touchdown
💡 Note: These technical riding skills are crucial for the practical exam and may also be relevant for the teaching demonstration.
Theoretical Preparation & Teaching Experience
- Teaching experience in other sports is not mandatory but beneficial.
- Required Theoretical Preparation: Each participant must complete the VDWS Wingfoiling Instructor E-Learning Program before the course. Depending on the learning type, the estimated time commitment is 15–20 hours.
Presentation & Examination Requirements
- Each participant must prepare a 15-minute presentation on a pre-assigned topic.
- Topics will be communicated before the course begins.
Eligibility Requirements & License Completion
Minimum age for course participation: 16 years
Requirements for obtaining the VDWS Instructor License:
✔ Successful completion of the training course
✔ Passing the practical exam, theoretical exam, and teaching demonstration
✔ Active membership in the VDWS
✔ Minimum age for licensing: 18 years

Requirements to participate in an X-OVER Course
The same requirements apply for participation in X-Over courses as for standard Level 1 instructor training. However, participants must already hold a valid VDWS instructor license in another watersport discipline.
The experience and prior knowledge gained from this certification allow for a shortened course duration.
Exams
Praxisprüfung (12–30 Knoten)
Wingfoilen auf verschiedenen Kursen
Die Praxisprüfung erfolgt in einem flachen Dreieck-Parcours und beinhaltet folgende Anforderungen:
- Stabiles gefoiltes Fahren auf unterschiedlichen Kursen
- Gefoilte Halsen mit sicherer Rückkehr zum Ausgangspunkt, auch nach einem Touchdown
- Nachweis der Manöverbeherrschung durch kontrolliertes Fahren von Wenden und Halsen, sowohl aus Heel- als auch Toeside
- Zusätzliche Aufgabe: Sicheres Steuern eines Longboards auf einem Achter-Parcours (zwei Bojen mit 50 m Abstand auf Höhe-Wind-Kurs)

Lehrprobe
